Scanning

We have scanned tens of thousands of antique maps, photographs, negatives and postcards large and small. We use both flat bed and large-format feed scanners. We have capabilities to scan less than legal size maps with an extremely high resolution via our flat bed scanner and we have relationships with outside vendors who photograph larger and fragile items including wall maps. We scan oversize items.  If you have large paper prints, original artwork or other oversize media, we can scan it. We utilize a commercial grade, large format feed scanner which captures content at extremely high resolution, excellent color and fine detail. Our scanner accepts and mechanically draws an antique map or other paper media to be scanned. Digital files can be burned onto CDs or DVDs. We can make output files available for direct download from our server as well. Scanning of maps, photographs, negatives, postcards, etc. is quoted on a case by case basis. Contact us to inquire.

Scan and consign with us! If we scan your maps, photographs or other content and find it appropriate for inclusion in our collection, we can use the digital versions of the maps to market your maps to our customers. In addition, we can offer fine art reproductions of your content to our customers and pay you a commission every time we sell a reproduction of your item.

Consignment

We currently accept antique maps, vintage transit and antique railroad memorabilia for sale on consignment. Items we are looking for include 19th and 20th century antique and vintage maps from around the world, old subway signs and transit maps from any city, antique railroad schedules and maps as well as other antiques that compliment our collections of antique cartography, transit, and railroad items. Specific items we are always seeking include antique maps of Boston and Cambridge as well as vintage subway signs and maps from Boston, New York and other cities. Please browse our website to get a sense of what items we offer.

How it works: Items taken on consignment are displayed in our retail store and/or our websites for our customers. We prepare a simple, one page consignment agreement with each consignee so that everyone knows what is expected. When we sell an item, we retain a percentage of the realized sale price. The balance is sent via business check to the consignee. We remit consignment commission checks at the beginning of each month for any sales from previous months. We take care of all costs related to marketing, photographing, displaying and reselling consignment items including all overhead, credit card fees, sales tax remittance costs, etc. If we accept your consignment piece, let us do all the hard work.

How to inquire: All items to be consigned must first be inspected and approved by us. While we are happy to meet with walk-ins, we prefer if an introductory email sent in advance. The introductory email should include representative photos and as much descriptive information that can be provided about the items to be consigned. If you have hundreds of maps, a few photos that represent the collection and a brief list will suffice at first. We promptly review our emails each day and will respond indicating if we are interested in taking the items on consignment or not. If we are interested in accepting your item on consignment, we will be in touch to discuss formalizing a consignment agreement. Delivery or shipping of items to be consigned is usually arranged by the consignee. In extraordinary circumstances, we may be available to pick up consigned items. After reading through the information above, we welcome you to contact us with an introductory email regarding items you wish to consign.
